They were all born in County Antrim, Ireland and lived in Warrensburg in 1850. The History of Johnson County states, "Wm. Lemon, Andrew, Thomas, Robert, and Wm. Matthews, and Adkin Powell, came here in 1842".

THE ANCESTRAL FILE SHOWS WILLIAM MATTHEWS BIRTH AS 1818. CENSUS RECORDS SHOW 1812, AND HIS HEAD STONE SHOWS THAT HIS BIRTH WAS 10 JUN 1810. HE AND HIS WIFE SARAH "SALLIE" WILSON ARE BURIED IN THE McGinness CEMETERY, ALSO KNOWN AS THE MATTHEWS CEMETERY. THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED IN LAFAYETTE County Missouri, USA; WASHINGTON TWP, 48 N. RANGE 26 W. THE CEMETERY IS TREMENDOUSLY OVERGROWN WITH TREES, BRUSH AND FALLEN LIMBS, MANY MARKERS HAVE FALLEN OVER, INCLUDING WILLIAM MATTHEWS'S AND SOME ARE BROKEN INCLUDING SARAH WILSON'S.

On page 1036 of the History of Johnson County by Ewing Cockrell it states that Mr. H.H. Shackleford purchased his home in 1894 and that the "farm formerly belonged to William Matthews, an old pioneer of Hazel Hill township."
