Johnson Funeral Home Records indicated James Brinkley was the son of Wyley Brinkley who was born in Tennessee.

Birth

James Wesley Brinkley's Death Certificate lists the name of his father as "Wyley Brinkley" and indicates Wyley's birthplace was Tennessee.

Birth

Johnson Funeral Home Records indicated James Brinkley was the son of Wyley Brinkley who was born in Tennessee.

Census

This looks like our Wiley E. Brinkley. His Mother is even Piety Brinkley and he was born in Tennessee.

Census

The Willie E. Brinkley listed in this census has not been 100% verified yet; however, he appears to be our Wyley Brinkley.

Military

There is a W.E. Brinkley listed as a Private with the Confederate Army, Regiment origin Arkansas, 10th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry Company C. Is this our Brinkley??? This regiment was engaged in the following: Battle, Pittsburg Landing, Shiloh, Tenn. - April 6-7, 1862 Engagement, Baton Rouge, La. - Aug. 5, 1862 Operations against expedition from Pass Manchac and Ponchatuoula, La. - Sept. 13-15, 1862 Skirmish, Bayou Bonfonca, La. - Nov. 21, 1862 Operations against Port Hudson, La. - Mar. 7-27, 1863 Action, Plain's Store, La. May 21, 1863 Siege, Port Hudson, La. May 24-July 9, 1863 Assault, Port Hudson, La. - May 27, 1863 Assault, Port Hudson, La. - June 14, 1863 Surrender, Port Hudson, La. - July 9, 1863

Only 200 of the original 1000 men in this regiment survived to the end of the war.

Name

I have looked and our Wyley or Willie E. Brinkley is not William Brinkley the son of Bumpas and Elizabeth Brinkley from Henderson County, TN though several from that family were in Arkansas in 1860. Judy Anthony track down a census record from Carroll County Tennessee for Wiley E. Brinkley that is likely our Wiley.

I am unsure but it is likely Wiley was the W.E. Brinkley listed in Company C of the 10th Arkansas Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Most of the men died during the war (80%). The unit surrendered in Louisiana in 1863. Wiley either died or made it back. If he made it back there is no record. William Pashley seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. I can't find older records for him.

Note

Research Notes... William Brinkley (son of Eli) married Agnes Bumpass Cozart in 1782. (children: Alexander, William, James, Robert, Bumpass, Winnie, Anthony, Jemima). Wyley E. is possible the descendant of Anthony who was born in 1799. No proof yet. The Jenkins and Brinkley families were close during this time. Wyley married Caroline Jenkins.
